Work and reintegration

Why work matters

Back to work after illness or injury

Work plays an important role in your life. It’s where a large part of your social contact comes from, it takes up a good part of your week, and it earns you the money to do other things. So it has serious consequences when you end up at home sick.

What we do

What does the work rehabilitation therapist do?

The work and reintegration therapist at STADS Occupational Therapy maps out your limitations and guides you back to work. That may be your old job, but sometimes something new.

Your therapist helps you find a good way to build up your work, keeps an eye on your work–life balance with you, and supports you in communicating with your occupational health doctor (bedrijfsarts) and employer.

For your employer

For your employer too

The laws and rules around sickness absence are complex. The Gatekeeper Improvement Act (Wet verbetering poortwachter) sets requirements for both you and your employer, and they often don’t know exactly what’s expected of them.

We can stand beside you, so the conversation about building up and adjustments is about substance rather than formalities.

On location

The workplace visit

In many cases, the therapist visits your workplace. Especially when your symptoms started there.

On paper, a workplace often sounds fine. Only when you’re there do you see the chair that hasn’t been replaced, the screen that’s too low or the lifting movement made dozens of times a day.

When to call

When should you call us in?

  • you’re at home and don’t know how to build up
  • you’ve started reintegrating but your symptoms keep coming back
  • you and your employer can’t work it out together
  • you’re unsure whether your old job is still feasible
  • your symptoms started at work and you want to prevent it happening again

Questions

What people often ask us

Does my employer pay for this, or my insurance?

Occupational therapy is covered by the basic insurance: ten hours per calendar year, although it counts towards your deductible (eigen risico). Some employers choose to pay for the programme themselves, for example for a workplace assessment. We discuss this beforehand.

Do you really come to my workplace?

In many cases, yes, especially if your symptoms started there. On paper, a workplace often sounds fine; only when you’re there do you see what’s really going wrong.

Do you talk to my occupational health doctor?

Only with your permission. We can help you prepare for the conversation or be there with you, so it’s about building up and adjustments rather than forms.

What if my old job is no longer feasible?

Then together we look at what does suit what you can do and want to do, and what’s needed to move in that direction. Sometimes that’s different work within the same company, sometimes something completely different.
