What physiotherapy costs in the Netherlands
A standard physiotherapy session at STADS costs €53. A specialised session — manual therapy, oedema therapy or paediatric physiotherapy — costs €66,45. Occupational therapy is billed per 15 minutes of treatment, at €32,85.
Most people pay little or nothing themselves. We have a contract with every Dutch health insurer, which means we bill your insurer directly for the part your policy covers. You do not have to pay up front and claim it back afterwards — something that often works differently in other countries.
What you get reimbursed depends on your own policy, not on us. Below you can read how Dutch insurance works for physiotherapy and for occupational therapy, and what we charge if you have no supplementary cover.
Physiotherapy
Accessibility and insurance
Since 2006, people in the Netherlands have been able to directly access physiotherapy treatment without a doctor referral. You will need a health insurance plan that covers physiotherapy, called an ”aanvullende verzekering” or additional coverage. This plan covers either a certain number of consultations, or the bill up to a certain amount. Even with additional coverage, It’s smart to check with your therapist to ensure you can claim back on your insurance.
In certain situations, you may be eligible for partially reimbursed treatment through basic health insurance if you have a chronic condition. In this case you will need a referral letter from your doctor or medical specialist with a diagnosis that qualifies as a chronic condition within the Dutch healthcare system. If you don’t have additional coverage, we use the following rates:
Regular physiotherapy session | € 53,00 |
Specialised physiotherapy session
Manual therapy Oedema therapy Paediatric physiotherapy Geriatric physiotherapy Psychosomatic physiotherapy | € 66,45 |
Intake and assessment | € 79,80 |
Surcharge for treatment at your home | € 28,55 |

Appointments can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours in advance. If you cancel too late or not at all, you will receive an invoice according to our rates. So send an email in time, call us, or leave a voicemail message.
Occupational therapy
Accessibility and insurance
Occupational therapy is accessible without a doctor referral. Occupational therapy is covered in your basic insurance package for at least 10 hours per calendar year. Contracts with health insurers 2026
Our practice has a contract with all Dutch health insurers in 2026. That means we can bill your insurer directly for the part your policy covers, and you do not have to pay up front and claim it back yourself.
What is reimbursed still depends on your own policy. Physiotherapy for adults comes from your supplementary insurance (aanvullende verzekering), so check how many sessions you have per calendar year, or up to what amount. If you are not sure, bring your policy and we will look at it with you.
